You should receive this WEDA Wire just before the 2017 WEDA Fall Conference at the Osthoff in Elkhart Lake.

WEDA's 2017 Fall Conference will use a new format to receive input on aligning workforce and economic development strategies and policies. The conference is co-hosted by the Wisconsin Workforce Development Association. The convening will also be the first time we have actively encouraged businesses to attend and provide input on funding, programming and policies.

As an organization and as individual economic development practitioners, we cannot solve workforce issues on our own. We must reach out to other agencies and learn about each other and the talents and resources each group can bring to the table. This event will help us along that road as we have sessions from Workforce Development Boards, the Department of Workforce Development and the Council on Workforce Investment, as well as a joint public hearing on Friday.

As we work with these various partners, we cannot help but become better practitioners and champions for workforce development in our communities. I for one have never walked away fronm one of these conferences without making a new connection or learning about a new program that would help me in the future.

If you receive this before September 27, you still have time to register and get to the conference. There are one-day options for Thursday or Friday to fit your schedule. If you absolutely cannot make the conference, please look for opportunities to work with our workforce partners and become informed advocates of WEDA’s legislative initiatives around worker training, retention and attraction. If you have questions about our legislative agenda, please contact Michael Welsh, our Director of Legislative Affairs.
