The July 2017 WEDA Board meeting was very productive! The board made some major decisions that you will hear more about in the coming months - and in future editions of the  WEDA Wire.

I will start by talking about the new WEDA Logo; it has been many years since the last revision to our logo, and the board felt that we needed to update our look. A small committee was formed to work with an online site to gather designs from freelance designers. The results were fantastic with 109 new logo designs submitted. This was narrowed down to eight by the committee and then presented to the Executive Board for review and recommendation to the full board. Our chosen design was approved unanimously by the full board at the July meeting in Baraboo.

The other exciting news coming out of the meeting was approval for staff to move ahead with a new website. Once again this tool has not been updated in many years and has become unwieldy to maintain and update. With other changes happening with membership services, the board felt it was time to make that change.

I would like to thank my colleagues on the WEDA Board and the WEDA staff for their hard work over the past six months as we have moved many initiatives forward. You will hear more about these and other WEDA efforts in this issue and over the next few months. I ask you to thank them as well should you see them in person. I would also encourage you to take advantage of the Basic Economic Development Course this fall and the Community and Economic Development Awards (CEDA) in September.

- Ed White, WEDA President
