WEDA Hails Governor Walker's Leadership

The Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) thanks Governor Walker for his leadership in promoting economic development and innovative training programs in Wisconsin.  “The fact that new business formations were up 3.6 percent last year demonstrates how Governor Walker’s efforts are moving important indicators in the right direction.” said Christian Tscheschlok, WEDA President and Executive Director of Washington County Economic Development Corporation.

“The Governor’s focus on education and training addresses one of the most critical economic development issue facing our state” said Brian Doudna, Executive Director of WEDA. “Employers across Wisconsin report having trouble filling vacant positions due to a lack of properly trained applicants” Doudna said.

“The Governors commitment to investing in education and worker training will help both individuals seeking employment as well as employers who need a trained workforce” Tscheschlok said. “It’s a win –win situation that will help grow our economy and strengthen our communities.”

Another key economic development issue in rural parts of Wisconsin is broadband deployment. “Access to high speed internet service is essential to both existing businesses and any new company considering a rural location in Wisconsin” Doudna said. The Governor’s proposal triples funding for rural broadband deployment.  “This program, which partners with local investments to expand the fiber optic network will help rural Wisconsin compete in the global economy” Doudna noted.

“WEDA is committed to continuing to collaborate with Governor Walker in his efforts to improve worker training, strengthen the business climate and grow the economy” Tscheschlok said.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to expanding the economy of the State of Wisconsin. Founded in 1975, WEDA’s economic development professionals and active volunteers are dedicated to making Wisconsin a better place to live and work through economic development that focuses on retaining and expanding existing businesses; facilitating investment and entrepreneurship; and attracting new companies, employment opportunities and innovation capital.
