First "Certified in Wisconsin” Sites Announced

The first "Certified in Wisconsin” development-ready sites located in nine communities were announced by WEDC in December. Sites have been certified in Beaver Dam, Beloit, DeForest, Fitchburg, Janesville, Menomonie, Prescott, Village of Howard and West Bend. WEDC and the communities have started marketing these sites to site consultants and developers and through the Locate in Wisconsin website: http://www.locateinwisconsin.com/

Connect Communities Selected

Connect Communities is designed to offer technical assistance resources, create networking opportunities and connect local leaders to financial/technical assistance programs. The program is offered to communities that have an interest in revitalizing their downtowns/urban commercial districts. The first 20 communities selected include: Antigo, Berlin, Cambridge, Cashton, Chilton, Crandon, Deerfield, Edgerton, Greenwood, Hartford, Hartland, La Crosse, Menasha, Menomonee Falls, Menomonie, Mosinee, Plymouth, Pulaski, Sheboygan and Superior. Skills Wisconsin Information

Skills Wisconsin, a project to improve the connection of job seekers with available jobs with the skills required for those jobs is being launched with five pilots across the state. Skills Wisconsin will implement a new online business client relationship management tool (Salesforce) to expand coordination among Workforce Development Boards and economic development entities. This is a three-year project of the Wisconsin Workforce Development Association, Department of Workforce Development, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, Wisconsin Technical College System, and Wisconsin Economic Development Association. International Development Events

The Governor's trade mission to China will be April 12-21, 2013, to build trade ties between Wisconsin firms and Chinese businesses and investors. Companies encouraged to participate in the trade mission are in the areas of advanced manufacturing; environmental and water remediation; clean energy production, storage, and distribution; and food processing and safety sectors. www.inwisconsin.com/chinamission2013

WEDC is partnering with the Council of Great Lakes Governors for a trade venture to South Africa March 6-15. The goal of this venture is to assist small to medium-sized companies from the Great Lakes region export products and services to this exciting market. WEDC is hosting a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) seminar Feb. 15. This is for staff of economic development organizations involved in FDI to get an update on WEDC's strategy for attracting FDI, update on EB-5 immigrant investor program and a demonstration of benchmarking tools WEDC has secured.
