Regional Economic Competitiveness Report Provides Roadmap for Improving Wisconsin’s Economic Development Playbook

Madison, Wis.  Today, the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) released its draft report – which was commissioned following this past summer’s Legislative Audit Bureau operational audit of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). Highlights from the report included references to various organizational and operational improvements, as well as comparative best practices, to strengthen Wisconsin’s lead economic development entity.

“We are pleased that the CREC report focuses on process improvements, and believe that when fully implemented, the report recommendations have the potential to enhance WEDC’s accountability, transparency and programmatic outcomes,” said Christian Tscheschlok, WEDA president and Executive Director of Washington County Economic Development Corporation. “Our members agree with the report’s focused approach, and that engaging in a type of wholesale restructuring will divert energy away from WEDC’s mission as a resource grow Wisconsin’s economy, ” Tscheschlok said.

WEDA’s Executive Director, Brian Doudna noted, “During the next 30 days, WEDA will be engaging its membership in the review of this report in preparation for serving as a resource to the administration, the legislature and WEDC.
